Where It All Began
Childhood on the Dairy
Our story begins on the lush dairy farms of Pennsylvania and Maryland, where both of us grew up surrounded by the rhythm of milking, feeding, and the quiet beauty of country life. Those early years instilled in us not just a respect for animals and land, but a deep understanding that good things take time, care, and commitment.
Love, Marriage, and the
First Herd
After we married, we set out on our own agricultural adventure; eight unforgettable years running a small dairy farm. We poured our hearts into every morning milking and every evening chore, learning that shared effort builds not only strong families, but strong herds.
Heading West & Finding
New Beginnings
When we moved out west, our love for dairy life came with us. Goats became our new companions — practical, personable, and perfect for providing fresh, raw milk for our growing family.
We began crafting our own goat cheese — not for profit, but for joy. It was the start of something that would later become our passion: creating wholesome, hand‑made dairy products we could share with others.
The Return to Cows & the Birth of a Dream
As our children grew, so did our dreams. We longed to return to our first love, milking cows.
Our journey began with one Jersey cow, lame but full of spirit. With care and patience, she rewarded us with the richest, creamiest milk we’d ever tasted.
Saying goodbye to her was hard, but it opened the door to a new chapter — a herd of six healthy Jerseys, each one cherished. From their milk came golden butter, soft cheeses, sour cream, and the idea that would soon become Golden Rule Dairy.
Family at the Heart of It All
Today, with six of our ten children still working beside us — along with our dedicated son‑in‑law — the farm is truly a family endeavor. Every bottle we fill, every delivery we make, carries a piece of our family’s care and pride.
